It's worth noting that this isn't a random number but a goal that would simply restore the court to an earlier norm in which there's one justice for each of the judicial circuits. We used to have nine, we now have thirteen.

there is no rhyme or reason to an entire “AI” department, much less an AI school. There is no curriculum, as such, because AI is not a school of thought. It has no theory, no method. It’s just a tool. Two or three courses, max, if someone is obsessed with it should suffice.

Then they have all the transcripts (and the ai token bill) but no sensemaking. so they make another app — a layer that will make sense of all the useless transcripts. But of course sensemaking isnt just pattern spotting. It’s interpretation. AI cannot do either because AI cannot be curious

Notetaking in meetings is tiny case in point - used to be some predictable social assumptions who would do it; now anyone can offer to do ”notetaking” by turning on the AI listener. Further interesting scenario is human recollection / notes (taken by habit by a person) conflict with AI summary

Generally, same. It helps me to think of what we call “the left” as a smallish group of disaffected graduate students who wanted to skip the reading to get to the classroom debate. They come by the jargon honestly, for the most part, just out of institutional context.
And it’s not a big deal.

sometimes i talk about little quirks of the left i dislike and people assume i align with reactionaries who make similar criticisms. But (1) i ultimately don’t think this is a big deal & (2) the pundit critique is more like “academic jargon is alienating” while I’m talking about misuse by laypeople
i actually do think this is an issue, where random people have sort of adopted the language of expertise on various issues they don't have more than a passing understanding of. it's not limited to the left but i feel like it has an acute presentation here.

Yeah this "pervert glasses in the classroom" thing is bothering me enough that I emailed both my departments asking if we can get practical guidance from the chancellor & IT.
What I'm really, increasingly wanting is a Wi-Fi kill switch for each classroom, but i don't know that that's in the offing.
