Was thinking about that Coltrane but never spotted it (and didn't camp out this year). Managed a pretty good haul with some weird late-morning/early-afternoon luck. Femmes! Laufey! Weezer!

EVERYBODY TO KENMURE STREET (2026, A): What incredible (if also incredibly frustrating) timing to have this film's events captured and released now of all times. Especially meaningful to us Madisonians who were around 15 years ago. These weren't our faces, but they ARE our voices. #wifilmfest

25 CATS FROM QATAR (2025, A): Builds to quite a crescendo of warm-heartedness and cooperation. If you're like me, and the thing that gets you about animal frailty is how strongly people care for them when they're in need, this film will wreck you in the sweetest way. #wifilmfest

NORMAL (2025, B+): When everything is a Chekhov's Whatever, you're basically looking at a Rube Goldberg machine of action and murder. Great festival movie, amazingly light touch on trans awareness. Silliness often abounds, which is not always my jam. #wifilmfest

THE GOLDEN SPURTLE (2025, A-): You know what they say, the spurtle chooses the wizard. Deftly handles the inherent goofiness of the premise without insult, great use of Wes Anderson's twee symmetrical framing. Didn't entirely know how to get its final shot. #wifilmfest

What about popcorn for breakfast?

HEN (2025, B): Why did this chicken cross the road? Well, there was a fox, then a NATO protest, then a human trafficking ring. Call it ONE CLOACA AFTER ANOTHER and you're on the right track. #wifilmfest

Probably just the social media influencers and "media" that they sent them to last week.

Anyway, don't overlook The Deliciouser, even if you (like me, still) kind of hate the name. It's the food that matters, not the name at the top of the marquee. (Patrick O'Halloran's name, though, you should remember.) Check my review out in print now, or online here. isthmus.com/food-drink/r...

Even when it was a little meh (the tagliatelle, for example), it was still interesting or at least competently prepared. Excellent pasta.

Regardless, I wanted the review to focus on the food at The Deliciouser, which is quite good -- very flavorful and presented both generously and unfussily. I loved LOVED the Berbere spiced beef, and if the Siena pork shoulder had come with some tortillas, I'd have been in heaven.

I'd have talked more about this in the review, but unlike with blogs & newsletters, space in a physical paper is at a premium and words have to be chosen with thoughtfulness. And even when I do try to blather on, sometimes my editor chimes in with that requisite thoughtfulness. It's a team effort.

The Deliciouser started as a retail/presentation space and doesn't always feel like its design really suits being a restaurant. If you're not into communal seating, make a reservation for a hightop or the bar. (It overlooks the kitchen; the space where drinks are prepared has no seating.)

It's Patrick O'Halloran's kitchen, he formerly of Lombardino's & The Old Fashioned. He's co-owner here with -- get ready -- his wife and his ex-wife. I don't really want to focus on the personal side of things, because it's actually sweet that everyone is friends, but regardless, it's ... novel?
