I needed a Victorian walking skirt, a fitted jacket, a petticoat, a bustle, and a corset. I called my friend Tabitha. She said yes. I should have warned her more carefully.

Hurrying across the street, clutching my tea set in the ice cream carton for an afternoon of play, I tripped and fell, dropping the carton. Upon impact, the lid popped off, and the teapot, creamer, sugar bowl, saucers, and tea cups tumbled out.
