Russia is drawing Belarus into the war with Ukraine by deploying military assets on Belarusian territory, according to the Main Directorate of Intelligence (GUR) of Ukraine. He added that if Minsk did not authorize this deployment, it would indicate that Belarus no longer controls Russian actions on its territory. The intelligence chief also said Ukrainian officials are monitoring efforts by Russian leadership to involve Belarus directly in the conflict. “We know Moscow seeks to use Belarusian territory and military resources to expand the scope of military operations against Ukraine,” Ivashchenko noted. Ivashchenko predicts the Kremlin will step up pressure on NATO’s eastern flank to test the alliance’s response, demonstrate allied unpreparedness for open confrontation with Russia, and amplify psychological and information operations across Europe to reduce military support for Ukraine. On August 26, reports emerged of a large new railroad junction being built in Belarus for transferring military hardware and personnel. Radio Svoboda reported receiving documents and satellite photographs showing increased activity by the Lukashenko regime in Homel region. Days later, Belarusian National Security Council Secretary Alexander Volfovich announced a combat readiness inspection of one of Belarus's artillery brigades, which would leave its base to carry out “a number of tasks.”
