It is Hegseth’s (and chair of joint chiefs) job to protect these bases and US troops. Hegseth should know US global troop deployment like the back of his hand, and proactively advise the Commander in Chief. If CiC decides to go unprepared, Hegseth should have told Congress, who can inform US public.
