Liberal politics. Despise right wing populism but also worried about the rise of left wing populism. Not against genuine well thought out views that I disagree with.

Also, we named the dog Indiana!
When did liberal become left in the uk rather than the middle ground between conservatism and socialism?

If contractors should pay the same tax as employees
Then employees should pay the same tax as contractors

If #IR35 is correct taxation then by that logic employees are dodging a hell of a lot of tax

If you could devise a policy that meant big business could absorb most of the work, overcharge for it, send many of those roles abroad — and maybe the profits too — while passing business costs onto the worker on a fixed term zero rights basis

You’d have thought the left would be against it!

#IR35

Had a suspicion that perminant roles are being turned into inside ir35 roles for a while now

Finally after seeing ones which had a whiff off it, I’ve now got the first one which clearly shows it happening

Classic backfire effect of the employee rights act

Just want to post to say how brilliant I think Karl Urban is!

Nothing life changing, but needs to be said

Not easy in this country to be both centre right on the economy and centre left socially at the best of times - but fucking hell

1/2 It's starting to very much look like what should be permanent jobs are now starting to be offered on an Inside IR35 basis.

No idea how many would even see this let alone read it, but just thought I’d let everyone know what Project Hail Mary is bloody brilliant!

If anyone wants a billion £ idea, the invent an app which stops the iPhone “autocorrect” turning correct English into incorrect English and just works on words that are actually spelt incorrectly.

All racism is bad. All killing of innocent people is bad. When will people get that into their racist heads?

If I hear/see the words "fair", "fairness", "fairer" by a politician again in an attempt to quell critical thinking I'm not sure I can be responsible for my actions!

The failure of today can be summed up by

A is working badly
B is not A
Therefore B is correct

No reference to C, D, E or even that A is the best of a series of bad options.

“Fairness” is clearly the government’s nebulous word of the moment to stop people critically thinking about ideological decisions
November 4, 2025 at 8:37 AM
Idea for the Budget – IR35 is meant to make contractors pay the same tax as employees, then fairness says employees should start paying tax on the £1000s of gear, software, and business travel contractors fund themselves — or better yet, cover the full costs out of their own pocket too.

Permanent jobs are increasingly being rebadged as inside-IR35 contracts. I hope those who backed this system get to feel what it’s like to be taxed as employees, stripped of rights, and exploited by umbrella firms — just to grasp the damage they caused.

This has been an absolute classic series of Taskmaster!

When you live in an area where rich pensioners moan about the WFP whilst drinking their 10th expensive latte of the week before getting into their BMWs to go back to their houses worth £500,000 which they bought for £5 in the 70s (yes some hyperbole there) means testing it doesn’t sound too bad.

I deeply suspect in a few years we’ll see a variation on this statement said often - “Though framed as a moral necessity, the policy underdelivered and proved counterproductive”

Love the John Wick film series, but Ballerina isn’t quite up there with the main series. Ana De Armas is excellent as ever though. Not a bad film, more a missed opportunity.

Surely there’s some kind of research or academic study out there exploring why people confidently walk up and talk to someone who’s clearly wearing ear pods/phones.
