Your bio says one thing about you. Your company's about page says something close, not identical: different year, different focus, sometimes a different title. Nobody's ever set the two next to each other.

Ask an assistant who competes with your company, then ask the same question about each one it just listed. The list rarely points back – one might mention you, the other two usually won't.

We opened three pages this company already owns – its own site, a directory listing, a review page – and asked each one the same question: what does it do? They didn't agree.

Your one-line difference was written to be read alone. It never is – it lands in a column with two or three others, read in one sitting. Cover the names and see whether anyone could pick yours out.

You asked an assistant what it knows about your company and got a confident paragraph back. The name was in the question. What gets scored is whether it comes up when nobody types it.

Count how many of your own first five search results you actually own. A dormant listing, a former hire's profile, a review page outranking the homepage – none of it a hack against you.

Ask an assistant who runs your company, and it answers in detail. Ask who you are, apart from the company, and most of the time you get the same page back, with different pronouns.

Cross out the name of the company you work for. What's left in most bios is one adjective and a job title that used to be true – none of it written by the person it's about.

You share a name. So does your company. A rower, a dentist, a shuttered shop in another state, all on page one with you, unlabelled. Both published rubrics deduct for it – once on the company, once on you.

Your three profiles describe three different people. LinkedIn has the title, the conference bio has the ambition, an old team page has the job before that. A reader gets whichever one loads first.

Unshipped products do not count. Unbuilt pages do. Growth potential asks how much upside is reachable without changing the business. Upside that needs a new product lowers the score.

By the time you say a word you have been introduced already – an old search result, a profile for a job you no longer do, one sentence an assistant repeats. None of it is what you would lead with.

The review you never answered is still answering. Not the furious one – the two-star one from a customer who was almost happy, with no reply under it since some spring you would have to look up.

Two documents get read before a first call, in order. The company page gets you the meeting. The person behind it is the second read, and it decides what kind of meeting it turns out to be.

Brand, SEO, AI visibility, trust, market position, growth potential. Somebody scores your company on all six before the call, and the only source they lack is your memory.

Every assistant holds a description of your company, and none of them asked you for it. A stale directory, an old interview, a competitor's comparison page – that is the paragraph a buyer hears.

Search the thing you sell, not your name. The problem, in a buyer's words. Not on that page? Somebody else is answering a question that was about you.
