The IPCC confirms that changing dietary patterns is essential to achieving net zero and limiting global warming to 2°C. According to AR6, relying on fossil fuel cuts and CDR is not enough to hit climate targets.

Most climate channels ignore this because humans need to be violent to feel alive?

Here's today's column on the astonishing, ongoing mistreatment of people with #ME/CFS. Please spread it far and wide: the only thing which can break the media's wall of indifference is seeing an article about the issue go viral. Thank you. 1/2

Abandoned, dismissed and gaslighted: there is no excuse for the way ME sufferers have been betrayed | George Monbiot
Changes in guidance and science seem to have little impact on millions of devastated lives. It’s a social crisis playing out behind closed doors, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

A post claiming migrants crossing the Channel who are rescued by the RNLI or Border Force automatically become refugees has been shared over a thousand times on Facebook.

But this isn’t true. Refugee status is only granted after a successful asylum claim.
Claim that migrants intercepted by rescue ships in the Channel automatically get refugee status misunderstands asylum rules – Full Fact
The Home Office confirmed to Full Fact that those who are rescued at sea must apply for asylum in the usual way, despite contrary claims on social media.

Would love to see @bhamcitycouncil.bsky.social live up to its "Be Bold, Be Birmingham" slogan by going way out on a limb and following the lead of Paris and a bunch of other cities.
Is it Amsterdam? Copenhagen?

No, it's Paris!

After years of investment, the French capital has one of the best problems a city can have: bicycle congestion.

So if Paris has done it, why wouldn't other cities follow?

On Sunday, I sent a letter.

Since March 16, 2022, Ukraine has observed a minute of silence to honour defenders and civilians killed in the war.

Every day at 9 am.

I looked into the history of collective silence, and it became a letter.

When we stop talking about climate change like it’s a political issue and start talking about it as a shared challenge that we all need to work together to solve, that’s when we’ll finally be able to start talking about saving ourselves.

That is our conclusion here!
My new piece with @katharinehayhoe.com is out a TIME, which highlights what we all need to learn from climate communicators:
“This summer of disasters has shown us that climate impacts are not political, and it is past time we stopped talking about them as if they were.”

We Need to Stop Talking Like Climate Change Is Partisan
Climate change should be seen as a shared challenge to solve together, not a political debate, write Katharine Hayhoe and Dana R. Fisher.

Thanks so much everyone for a massive response. I've now had as many emails as I can cope with, so no more please - thank you. They paint a really grim and heatbreaking picture. The neglect and abuse of patients goes on and on. I hope to try to do the issue justice.
#ME/CFS
Intending to write another column about the treatment of #ME/CFS patients this week, pegged to new research findings on the biological basis. My question for sufferers:
Are any of you still being offered inappropriate (psych/GET etc) "treatments"?
Please email george at monbiot dot info. Thanks.
