To anyone who has spent time with an animal, the notion that they have no interior lives seems so counterintuitive, such an obdurate denial of the empathetically self-evident, as to be almost psychotic.

I know Ruslan personally. He is brave & devoted animal rescuer. Despite being feverish & wounded himself, he managed to apply a tourniquet to a French reporter and drove to the hospital in a wrecked vehicle, with almost no visibility.

The sidewalk was blockaded with sightseers who had gathered to stare at sightseers, justifying the natural law that every creature on earth is preyed upon by some other creature.
O. Henry, Sisters of the Golden Circle (1906)

One of my fave writers.

Banksy's world.
Blending irony, provocation and social commentary, this installation challenges us to question the labels we accept and the messages we follow without a second thought.

There's a sickness in people that stops them seeing the truth. Anything you see with love is the truth.

Waiting for food. Waiting for a door to open. Waiting for something to change. Waiting within the same boundaries, day after day.
Animals deserve more than a life spent waiting. They deserve agency. Choice. Freedom.

Misophonia is a newly-recognised medical condition where the sufferer may develop a hypersensitivity to everyday noises.
Early household environments can shape triggers, as family members are frequently the first and most common sources of trigger sounds.

by Mary Coleridge (1861-1907)

An old man leaning on a gate
Over a London mews -- to contemplate --
Is it the sky above -- the stones below?
Is it remembrance of the years gone by,
Or thinking forward to futurity
That holds him so?...

“I should like to write about 75–100 new poems, all rather better than anything I’ve ever done before, and dealing with such subjects as Life, Death, Time, Love, and Scenery in such a manner as would render further attention to them by other poets superfluous.”

Philip Larkin to Patsy Strang (1953)

To speak well of animals and look sceptically at children can’t please the public very much. It might even irritate it slightly. Not that I have anything against children. But the Kitsch of childhood annoys me. (1980)
