Growing at the Ballyearl allotments in Belfast has become a daily learning journey for me. I’m discovering the rhythm of the seasons, cooking everything from scratch with whatever the soil gives, and feeling constantly amazed by how nature responds.

I inherited the first shed from the previous holder — it was rough, faded and needed a lot of love. I stripped it back, repaired the panels, repainted it, added the signs and gave it a proper new life. The second shed was a skip rescue: broken roof, missing boards, but too good to waste.

Honestly can’t believe the harvest I’ve had from the allotment this year. Bowls full of tomatoes in every colour, potatoes and beets straight from the soil, zucchinis, onions, carrots… it’s like the whole kitchen has turned into a little market stall.

The hive is in full swing — bees coming and going nonstop at the entrance, each one with a job to do. After a busy few weeks, the swarm has finally settled down and is well established. The colony looks calm, organised, and ready to grow in Dumbo. #beekeeping

Outdoor tomato ripened in Belfast — something I’ve never managed before. Lovely surprise, but also makes me wonder how much our climate is shifting. Anyone else seeing plants doing things they never used to?
