The fact something as fundamental and superb as the RNLI is a charity is one of the most magical and strange things about Britain. You can support them here.

A great day at the Cheshire Festival of Other Worlds. Authors of fantasy, sci-fi, horror and all things magical and ghostly! Ben Aaronovitch stole the show for me. More books now on my tbr pile I’m afraid!

Last day of the holidays and one final trip out with Granny and Grandad. A great day at RSPB Burton Mere Wetlands where his enthusiasm brought smiles to everyone’s faces. Feet up tomorrow Granny!

Watching the #bees this afternoon. It’s worth looking closely to see that each one is different.

Harvest time is underway. Will be making soup for the freezer, (when it cools down a bit!) and searching out other tasty recipes. #squash

An afternoon working in the garden. Can you spot the cat?

I can’t remember the last time I had a small tortoiseshell in the garden. Lovely to see! Time to do the #BigButterflyCount I think.

Just catching up on the Prog Rock Prom that was on BBC 4 last night. The music of Genesis, Yes, Focus, Moody Blues, ELP… and many more. Great stuff for those of us of a certain age!

When I was little I used to love going for walks by the beck in the Cumbrian village where my grandparents lived. Even as a teenager, it was one of my favourite rambles. Today, I introduced Theo to that same walk. It felt good. (Although, I still can’t skim a stone across the water!!)

Thrilled to find TWO hedgehogs in the garden last night! We’ve had one regularly and I feared he was the only one around so this was a real treat. Lots of snorting and snuffling and shoving around so I’m not sure if they’re a pair or two males.

Ah well I can’t see to read anymore and I think the hedgehog must be watching the match. Time to go in.

Currently sitting in the garden reading while there’s still some light. It’s pleasantly cool! I’m hoping my hedgehog will bustle in soon. All is quiet although Brian has just been tunelessly warbling the national anthem! No doubt I’ll soon hear howls or cheers from him and the neighbours.

A day away from all the noise and the hustle, escaping to the fells. Whitethroat and Yellow hammer singing in the trees, a heat haze on the fell and Long Meg and her Daughters slumbering in the sun. A blissful day in Eden.

There have been 65 Kings & Queens of all England since Aethelstan became the 1st recognised monarch in the year 927 (let the arguments begin 🤴)

This tree hasn’t just witnessed all of them, it was born up to 2,000 years BEFORE Aethelstan

A mere 19° now and it’s beautiful out here. I’m reluctant to head indoors.

Slightly hysterical reaction just now when I checked my weather app: “IT’S ONLY 29° NOW!”
