As with so many part of the UK public realm, there's a graph and it shows "something happened in 2010 and we became a society with lesser public capacity to respond to unexpected challenges"

Shooting interests & the rightwing press want to exploit the wildfires to reinstate moorland burning.

But you don't fight fire with fire. You fight it with water.

This wildfire in Wales' Elan Valley in May stopped abruptly when it reached re-wetted peat bogs:

“Everything Is Legitimate”: How Israel Uses Rape as a Tool of Genocide
The rape of Palestinian detainees is so commonplace that it’s no longer hidden. It’s filmed, joked about, and celebrated in parliament. This is no mistake; it’s core to Israel’s colonial project.

By far the funniest moment in Homer’s Odyssey is when Circe says, “Shall we have sex?” and Odysseus says, “You just turned all my men into pigs. You have the GALL to think I would sleep with you? Of course I will. Absolutely. But don’t do any weird spells”

As Ed Miliband leaves his post as energy and net-zero secretary, a final tally:

There have been an incredible 251 newspaper editorials attacking him and his approach to net-zero since the start of 2024

That amounts to two editorials a week, mainly in the Sun, Daily Mail, Times and Daily Telegraph.

When Emily had her last game, after the FA ban on trans women and girls, it was devastating for her, her family, and her team mates. It takes away the joy they get from playing in a sport they love. It does not protect anyone.

Everybody in the "climate space" (which means everyone on earth...) needs to understand these mind-blowing figures.

Google's "total electricity consumption jumped from 31 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to 43 TWh in 2025."

In ONE year.

The AI corporate arms race is eating the world.
NEW BLOG FOR YOU

Google's energy consumption numbers in their new climate report are mind-blowing. 2 years ago they flipped from linear to exponential growth, and their climate impact is blowing out, too.

A WILD testament to the obscene bloat and waste of GenAI:

The Beeb did do some good work on small fascist groups distributing papers full of Nazi conspiracy theories and so on, but the problem here is the same one as the lads vowing to crush “fake news” in 2016: eventually, you have to admit the key problem is the Sun, the Mail, the Times and the Telegraph
Do you remember when the BBC made a massive deal out of "BBC Verify", its fact checking arm? Weird how this kind of inflammatory nazi shit isn't in their job description, isn't it? Almost as if we were right to mock it.
The BBC 10 o’clock news says the right wing idea of ethnic minorities being given preferential treatment in criminal justice is likely to become a “growing fault line in our politics” WITHOUT POINTING OUT THAT IT IS SIMPLY NOT TRUE. What’s the point of the news if it doesn’t correct disinformation?
