Fucking hell.

So the government just put out a handful of documents about trans people in prison, and the position is that barring some unlikely circumstances, if you're a trans woman you get put in a men's prison.

Here's the flowchart, details to follow:
Annex A: Transgender Women*- Initial Prison Allocation * ALL OTHER TRANSGENDER INDIVIDUALS (INCLUDING ALL TRANSGENDER MEN) MUST BE INITIALLY ALLOCATED TO A PRISON THAT MATCHES THEIR LEGAL GENDER THIS PROCESS MUST BE FOLLOWED FOR ALL TRANSGENDER WOMEN. THIS INCLUDES ANYONE RETURNING TO PRISON FOR ANY REASON AFTER BEING RELEASED AND PEOPLE WHO HAVE RECEIVED A MINISTERIAL EXEMPTION TO BE HELD IN THE GENERAL WOMEN’S ESTATE DURING PREVIOUS PERIODS OF PRISON CUSTODY. Where someone advises that they have a Gender Recognition Certificate (GRC), evidence must be seen before allocation via: Sight of a birth certificate confirming the acquired gender or sight of the GRC directly, or email confirmation from the Gender Recognition Panel (GRPenquiries@hmcts.gsi.gov.uk) Where the GRC is not evidenced, initial allocation must be in line with birth gender. Once gender is confirmed, an urgent CCB referral is to be submitted. Where someone advises that they have had gender affirmation surgery, evidence must be seen before allocation via: Sight of medical documentation or confirmation via healthcare records. Until such confirmation is received, initial allocation must be in line with birth gender. Searching should never be used to ascertain gender or genitalia. Once surgery is confirmed, an urgent CCB referral is to be submitted. Flow chart Decision 1: Does the individual have one or more of the following? 1. Violent offence (current or previous) 2. Sexual offence (current or previous) 3. Birth genitalia If Yes to Decision 1, Decision 2: Does the individual have a GRC? If Yes to Decision 2: Allocate to male estate and hold separately. LCB convened within 14 calendar days of arrival. Immediate CCB referral submitted to the Transgender Offender Team HMPPSTransgender@justice.gov.uk If No to Decision 2: Allocate to male estate.
