cover of dan simmons’ ‘carrion comfort,’ which—ngl—is SO 80s and was just a meh 3/5 for 884 pages. stephen king’s praise/comparisons to ‘the stand’ is what made me choose it and i just… don’t feel like it was worth it. i was too stubborn to dnf it. cover of liv zander’s ‘crown me dead.’ coming off of ‘carrion comfort,’ i read this in three days. a good brain break and enjoyable, i really liked liv’s writing. immediately finished and got the second book. cover of liv zander’s ‘crown me yours.’ good wrap up, perfect length, kept me entertained for all of it. actually had me a little teary at the end lol.

cover of laura thalassa’s ‘death.’ i wish i hadn’t waited so long between the third book and this one, the novelty of the series definitely waned and i didn’t enjoy this one as much. still a fun romantacy read, imo. cover of sapir englard’s ‘her wolf.’ i actually had a lot more fun reading this than i thought i would. it took a minute to get going, but was interesting once it did. i’m likely to finish the series at some point.

cover of mary roach’s ‘stiff: the curious lives of human cadavers.’ 5/5. incredibly interesting read and i really enjoy roach’s writing style; i look forward to reading more of her work. the cover of h.h. the dalai lama and howard cutler’s ‘the art of happiness.’ 5/5. excellent read for me at this point in my life. it’s helped me reframe my way of thinking and because of it my past few weeks have been incredibly fulfilling.

on a hot streak with my book choices recently, this one was so fun ✨
cover of deborah harkness’s ‘a discovery of witches,’ the first in her ‘all souls trilogy.’ yet another surprisingly fantastic read, it gets a 4.5/5 from me. magic, creatures, alchemy, history, romance, mystery… i look forward to reading the next book in the trilogy and more of harkness’s work in general.

blue crab claw salad, the most delicious crab dish i’ve ever had in my entire life, the pairing with granny smith apple 🤌🤌🤌 tuna tartare with—wait for it—sriracha ice cream, i could not believe they were serving it again one of the most delicious crab cakes i’ve ever had good lord wagyu new york steak, which was unfortunately TOO good to fully stomach as the seventh course of the meal 🥲

‘death,’ here i come
cover of laura thalassa’s ‘famine,’ which i give a solid 4/5. i will admit, i was fully prepared to enjoy this less than the second book in the series if it continued to be as violent as ‘war’ was, but this won me over and i enjoyed my time with it. i’ll be getting my hands on the fourth and final book in the series soon.

cover of grace daly’s ‘the scald crow.’ 5/5. i absolutely loved every second of reading this novel. it’s got mythology, horror, and the real details around chronic pain and medical trauma is… well… real. beyond believable. i cannot wait to read more of grace’s work.
