When people say that the economy being good feels completely disconnected from their lives, this is what they mean. Okay, shoes are AI now, and they get $50 million for that. Reading that sentence doesn't feel like getting bonked on the head with a bowling pin at all.

Industrialized agriculture only dates back to the mid-20th century. Plastics were not widespread until later than that. They've changed the world so quickly and thoroughly that it seems like there's no reversing it but I take the opposite view. Tobacco ruled the world until it didn't.
