Have you noticed how people who don’t live in London say things like ‘God I’ve heard it’s really dangerous’? Weird, right? Research project hoping to do something about it. 🔗 www.londonisfine.co.uk

Hi! Do you live in London? Or have you spent time there? Would you like to help with some research on how we can counter the daft lies that circulate about our city online? I’d be really interested in your answers to two questions at www.londonisfine.co.uk
London is fine – …meaning just okay or sunny or refined or FINE

Little reminder that I’m still on the hunt for your (or your friends’ and followers’) answers about London at londonisfine.co.uk with the hope that somehow together we can make this sort of weirdness less likely. Reposts very much appreciated, ta x www.lbc.co.uk/article/dona...
Third of people share Donald Trump’s belief that London has no-go areas | LBC
A survey of more than 2,000 UK adults found that 34 per cent of the public believe there are areas in London where Sharia law dominates and non-Muslims cannot enter

I hear that you shouldn’t close yourself to the counter-intuitive and unexpected in research. So I’m going to be conducting my research on London from the Basque Country for a few days. Will let you know how I get on. Look after London while I’m gone!

A mystery. Two markers in the same spot in SE London extolling lime and basil ice cream. Maybe the ice cream was more memorable than placing the marker & it’s the same person? Maybe it is (v optimistic) guerrilla marketing? Nah, surely just really nice ice cream that makes people happy.

Personally I am on tenterhooks to see whether Carnival weekend will have any effect on the void over West London. Hope everyone going has an excellent time, selfishly hope someone tells my map about it

[minor update: map re-greyed & I’m telling you in case you were put off checking in on London happiness by the model railway colours of the temporary fix. Quite a few new locations in the last week, some touching, some cheering, some funny]
August 29, 2026 at 1:12 PM
I’ve just switched ‘pin clustering’ on the map off (maybe temporarily) to see if it allows us a better sense of happiness deserts and oases. Take a look if you have a minute, and maybe nudge a proud West Londoner if there’s one near you?

More than a hundred map locations! I promised I’d say where the 100th is so that someone can feel the inner glow of luck.
So… the 100th happiness was just off the Strand! Or maybe in Dulwich. Sorry. I think you should both glow to be safe.

(Strand = 100 locations, Dulwich = 100 locations in London)

If you wanted to leave a record of where you’ve been happy in London today but were put off because there were weird watermarks all over the map - sorry! Watermarks now gone. (Have also fixed the weird thing with the shadows from the markers if that was bothering you)

2 updates: currently at 99 locations! Who will be the lucky 100th? Tbf I won’t know who (but I’ll know where & will report back) And an updated word cloud for you, in case you were curious about how thanking London is getting on: www.londonisfine.co.uk/word-cloud

Thank you, thank you and thank you again if you have answered one or both of the questions at LiF. We are approaching 100 locations of happiness on the map, and I’d really love to hit 3 figures. If you’d like to help us to get there I’d be really grateful for reposts of my pinned post?

Hi Sheamus! you seem to have accidentally given me '[email protected]' as your mail address so I can't reply directly but perhaps you'll see this here. 1/5

Interesting… do take a look at the LiF map if you haven’t for a few days because you’d think we were all talking about a different city

How blessèd do I feel, you ask? Only medium blessèd if I’m honest as someone right outside my window is digging up the street with a very loud drill. Still! Your news would probably make up for all that.

Good morning London. Please know that I sincerely want you to be happy and to feel blessèd today.

(So that you can tell me about it at londonisfine.co.uk)

As things currently stand in our survey of London happiness the results show:

North of the river: 49%

Was out in Whitechapel for peak eclipse and wasn’t prepared for what a lovely few minutes it would be: people hanging out in a thin sliver of sunlight passing their eclipse glasses round, and calling strangers over to have a go, a man showing off the crescents that his colander made
