The entire Bee opinion staff was let go today. I’m sad for my friends and former colleagues. Robin is a fearless and dedicated journalist who gives a shit. She is well-sourced and speaks her truth. Sacramento is better because of her work.

I've hung onto my Bee sub through prior layoffs, newsroom gutting and enshittification of its digital product. Epley is a thoughtful, provocative writer, who I often, but certainly not always, agreed with--her presence, along with key others, were why I kept paying. They're gone and now, me too.

What Pablo Torre did was ridiculously impressive. Uncovered a conspiracy between rich guys, withstood a propaganda campaign by one of the richest guys in the world with a pretty good reputation, didn't buckle or panic, and just kept reporting. That's some Pulitzerin' right there.

When the Gatlinburg Wildfires happened in 2016, Dolly gave impacted families $1,000/month to help them get back on their feet. This included my father-in-law, who lost everything in the fire. Dolly gave children in TN free books each month, from birth to the age of five. She was a goddamn saint.
