BREAKING: SCOTUS denies the Trump administration’s request to enforce the new U.S. Postal Service rule for the 2026 elections. Justices Alito and Thomas dissent.

After-9/11, the United States established a national registry for tens of thousands of people from Muslim-majority countries. The program stigmatized Muslim communities but never uncovered any terrorism links. "It wrecked so many lives, but officials just have forgotten," says author Rozina Ali.

Between 2015 and 2025, at least 15 children in an Idaho faith-healing sect died of treatable conditions.

State law allows that to happen: Parents who say their faith prohibits giving their children lifesaving medical care can’t be prosecuted.
Idaho Law Protects Faith Healers. It Wasn’t Always That Way.
From at least the 1880s through the early 1970s, it was illegal for parents in Idaho to choose prayer over medical care when a child’s life was at stake.

I mean, seriously. Were there politicians back in 1945 who thought "Yeah we should just reform the Schutzstaffel. It would be politically foolish to say we should defund or abolish them. I bet we can reign them in by re-writing laws that already exist. I'm sure they'll follow them this time."

Highway 37 sees 40,000 car commuters a day who will get an $11 billion taxpayer gift from Caltrans to elevate the freeway to deal with the climate change caused by the cars.

BART sees 200,000 commuters a day who have to fight like hell to raise $3.6 billion just to keep the trains running.
What a misleading headline! The bill to "fix" CA-37 is $11 billion, as stated later in the article. $100M is just to widen a portion of a road that is already sinking under the waves.

Note you don't need to vote on CA-37. That's because the state will just spend the money. Imagine that for transit!
Bay Area’s Highway 37 could be underwater by 2050. California could spend $100 million on a fix
California officials will weigh whether to invest $100 million in one of the Bay Area’s most ambitious transportation projects: the effort to raise a 21-mile highway before it sinks into the sea.
