Birder and naturalist. Mainly found on my patch at Drayton and Hillpool in north Worcestershire.
Feeling more and more like autumn on the patch today with Snipe (only the 3rd wader I've recorded here), 300+ large gulls gathering in the paddocks and c. 50 Linnet. Worryingly I've seen Ring-necked Parakeet on both of my recent visits

It felt like autumn was on its way today on the patch with 5 Yellow Wagtail new in, Swallows and House Martins gathering together, and Little Grebe back on the pool after spending the breeding season elsewhere

Could anyone advise me as to where is best to park and view the Western Reef Heron at the moment please?

A WeBS count on the patch today began with an unseasonal record of Teal (usually only found in winter here) and finished with a patch ✔️ in the form of a Spotted Flycatcher in the conifers beside the pool. Great to see lots of juvenile birds around.

A few hours around Drayton this morning produced 41 species, with Red Kite and 3 Wheatear the highlights. Grey Wagtail and House Sparrow already with young. Also Muntjac and my first Painted Lady of the year on the patch

I never feel it is quite spring on the patch until Wheatears appear. 2 this morning in horse paddocks were great to see, also first Swallow of the year

Not long now until our 15th #NewYearPlantHunt!
From 1 - 4 January, let's head out and see how many wild or naturalised plants we can find in bloom.
Resources to help us:

The data we collect will deepen our understanding of how our plants are responding to a changing climate.

The number of Linnet on the patch had grown to c.150 this afternoon, with probably a good few more. Also Stonechat pair still

This morning's visit to the patch produced a Woodcock (flushed from the woodland edge and a patch ✔️), Lapwing, a pair of Stonechat, single Chiffchaff and increasing numbers of Chaffinch

A lovely lunchtime walk around the patch today produced 3 Stonechat, an expected but very welcome patch ✔

Could anyone please identify this very large caterpillar? Was thinking a hawk-moth of some kind

I wasn't expecting to find an Eel this afternoon, a nice welcome back to the patch having not visited in two months
