I briefly mentioned that I’ve started a PhD with Greenwich Uni where I’ll be looking at female gardeners and environmentalists in the long 19th century. Who are the best people to follow here into that topic? Any ideas? #history #victorian #19C #gardening #gardeners #environment 🌱
So wise.

I've not posted all that much over the last few months as I've had a series of health crises, not least a head injury that has forced me to enter into an official PhD interruption.

However, I've just posted my most recent blog, a review of Women & Gardens 🌱:

Last night my car was stolen in SE London. There’s some v sentimental irreplaceable stuff in there so I’m desperate to get it back. If you live in SE London please do look out for it, and if you can share this to people you know in the area that would be wonderful!

Hi everyone - I'm crowdsourcing some plant data! 🌱

I've put together a survey where I'm looking for plants that:
- Are named after real or fictional literary people
- Are named in a general way in a work of fiction
- Existed in the British Isles at the time of Shakespeare (1564-1616)
Literary plants
The aim of this survey is to find plants that: - Are named after real or fictional literary people - Are named in a general way in a work of fiction (i.e. Lord of the Rings mentions 'roses') - Existe...

I’m doing something that I don’t do all that often - I’m reading a work of fiction like I would a historical source.

ADHD brain occasionally gives me side-quests. For the last few months I've been working on a quantitative research project, and I just completed the initial analysis!

No idea if I've done it right as I'm not a quant person (this project was mostly to learn), but I've submitted it to my supervisor!

Over the course of this year (and particularly this week) I’ve been working on a new version of my #PhD upgrade doc that was due today. Big news - I just emailed it off!

Now begins the self doubt of “what if my supervisors think it’s rubbish/not changed enough” 😂.

Well I’ll hear back next week…!

If you followed along with my two day postathon this week you’ll have seen “finish embroidered starfish” on my to do list, and you might have wondered what that was…well I’ve finished it! 🪡🧵 #embroidery #starfish

Phew, after two very busy PhD days I'm tired as all heck - but straight back to work. I've written a little bit about how I got to that point, and how I'm trying to get through it all over on my substack!

In case you missed it yesterday - I’ve taken two days off work to write my PhD upgrade document that’s due tomorrow & is nowhere near done.

So to try and keep me focused I’m live posting, and today is day two of “two days in the life of a sleepy and distracted PhD student”.

I’ve taken today & tomorrow off work to focus on writing my PhD upgrade document that’s due on Friday, & I’m nowhere near done.

So why not add more pressure to the days by live posting along with them! So this begins a “two days in the life of a sleepy and distracted PhD student”. #phdsky #phdchat

On Friday I have to hand in my next draft of my upgrade chapter and I am not close. 😬

I’ve decided to take Monday and Tuesday off of work to try and focus on it and I’m thinking maybe I live post the two days…see how much progress I make, how much I get distracted…

I've also just launched a substack.

At the moment, there isn't much content there, and will likely be a place that largely links to new posts on the website - but if you'd like to subscribe so that you never miss a blog there's that option!

I'm back with another Pilgrimage of Paws piece which this time took me to Canterbury. I hadn't been to the cathedral before and gosh it was dreamy. Unfortunately, my trip to the city was cut short, so there is most certainly going to be a second blog checking out dog friendly heritage in the summer!

I’m working on an #embroidery installation with a theme of under the sea through my 3D beading diploma module with Hand and Lock and I just hit a big milestone with the first bit of beading being added to my starfish! There’s more beading and gold to come, but eek!
