The Library is celebrating Roses 2026 by displaying a selection of rare items from Special Collections and Archives.

This public exhibition tells the story of the Wars of the Roses (1455-1487), the medieval contest between Lancaster and York.

You can find this exhibition in the Library entrance.

To the left of this text is a painting of Henry, the dates he lived and reigned, as well as a red rose for the House of Lancaster. To the right are images of other important figures from this period, including Richard Plantagenet, Duke of York and Margaret of Anjou. There is also a list of major battles in the Wars of the Roses. Beneath this poster is a glass display case containing two books and their labels, an image of Henry VI, and a printed extract from a chronicle. To the left of the title page is an image of Richard III, who wears rich clothing and appears to have a pronounced hunchback.
