Similarly, "complexity science" has a weird marriage of 1) ABMs, 2) Network science, 3) fuzzy metaphors/discussions of "emergence," and 4) people talking about how much doing "complexity science" will add to a field, without ever actually doing it.
Cybernetics split into control theory (a branch of engineering) for the people that wanted to do math, and systems thinking, whatever Deleuze and Guattari and DeLanda and Land and such were doing, and things still called cybernetics, for those who wanted a sort of high level philosophical framework.
the real problem with cyberneticists is they were too allergic to doing mathematics
