The scariest thing isn’t a horror novel. It’s any novel that reveals the capacity for darkness in us all. The one some make deliberate choices to avoid and the one others embrace—accidentally or on purpose.
Listening to an audiobook on the way home from work yesterday, the acknowledgement before ch1 was 3 tracks long. I have no idea what was in ch 1. I stopped listening & wished for a return in time to books on tape so I could have the satisfaction if tossing it in the trash.

You're looking at a Rainbow Tripod Fish (genus Bathypterois) observed on a blackwater dive near Cozumel, MX.

This species demonstrates "ontogenetic vertical migration": young of this species mimic jellyfish near the surface, but descend in depth as they age.

Unzipped the plastic panel on my portable greenhouse. Reached in to turn off the grow lights and instantly jumped back about ten feet because I was suddenly convinced a copperhead was curled up under the plants waiting to bite me.

That’s what I get for reading Stephen King since I was 11.

You ever notice how the people who say “just make time” usually have someone else quietly making time possible for them?

I cannot outline. I’d rather claw my eyes out. My brain just screams no. Even in long ago days of high school, I would take the F for the outline and end up with an A- on an A+ paper because I refuse to write an outline and we had to turn in the outline with the paper.

Scholarship check coming in today…spawned tears. He so deserves it. For 28 years I have had at least one child in my home. For many years as a single parent, too. Now that they are all off chasing dreams, time to remember what mine are. I am not done yet. I never will be. But I suddenly have time.

Curiosity might just kill the cat today. My pitcher 😭 Get a Maine Coon I said. So intelligent and trainable I said.

Exhibit A- the place she is trained to not go. Exhibit B- the f-s she gives. Exhibit C - the mugshot w/the plea of innocence.

His voice, when it came, was for something bigger than himself. Timeless.
The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe.

Will we listen to his words today?

Editing a short. Character’s name feels off — Character name is in a well known book I have read multiple x’s (been years).
I would blame it on chemo brain, but I remember in the 90’s creating a character named China Phillips. To my chagrin, a friend in a fit of laughter pointed out the obvious. 📚💙

If the US were in a literary novel, this would be one of the book’s major symbols. Jaqueline Kennedy’s historic garden for the people- representing American history, diplomacy, and civic beauty being smothered. 📚💙

I wiped some of this deterrent spray on the shelf because in her attempt to co-opt the space with my seedlings she has destroyed some brushing in and stepping on and nibbled on others. This is how well the deterrent works 🙄🤦‍♀️
