My dad has been living with terminal stage four pancreatic cancer since January of this year, and had a stroke last night. His ability to swallow has been impaired as well as some speech and steadiness. Prayers if you use them, hope if you’ve got it, positive thoughts if you can muster them. ⚓️

May it be so!
If every riding in Alberta swung away from UCP and toward NDP as much as they did on this by-election night, this would be an NDP-run province.
And here's how the Calgary-Shaw results look on the rest of Alberta

@emmettmacfarlane.com Does anyone know why Thomas Pitfield has yet to be seated in the Senate? The other announced senators-designate are already in the Red Chamber...

Dad had an emotionally tough day yesterday, so I stopped in on my way after work. He has lost so much weight and appetite over the past couple months. Since his diagnosis in January, this process has felt like an hourglass of unknown size, dripping away. I think now the size is in clearer picture. 😞

Learned yesterday that my father, currently in pancreatic cancer-instigated decline, doesn’t want a funeral or commemoration. I’m living in a cognitively dissonant space: my head gets it, but my heart aches.

The past several months, back to last July really, have been such a roller coaster for my family. My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in the summer, but had a lumpectomy and radiation treatment in Dec/Jan so she’s now “cancer-free” but in that same time 1/3

So Alberta is holding an anti-immigrant referendum to help create an excuse for why Danielle Smith is running multibillion dollar deficits?

“Smith’s address comes one week before Finance Minister Nate Horner tables the 2026 provincial budget which is expected to have a multibillion-dollar deficit”
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith announces fall referendum on immigration, constitutional questions | CBC News
Premier Danielle Smith wants to hold a referendum in October on measures to limit immigration to Alberta and changes she believes would give the province more rights under the Constitution.

"Should I chain myself to a tree over this?"

A resident in Dovercourt is threatening to because an infill development is being built in her cul-de-sac.

But when we look at the numbers, the area's population has halved in the last 50 years, plenty of parking.

So, probably not

Darren had an exceptional talent for egging people on, and convincing ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

His greatest trick was convincing everyone that he was just an ordinary guy too. And he wasn't. He was exceptional.

By the way, when Pierre Poilievre promises to end funding to the CBC, his ends are the same as Trump's with Kimmel. Trump doesn't like jokes about him. Poilievre doesn't like sober news coverage.

Told ya. And this is why we're going to end up with a Conservative government. Liberal partisans rationalizing everything he does and telling progressives to keep quiet are a big part of this.

We knew he was a blue Liberal. But Mark Carney is alienating progressive voters
The new PM's defiant tone doesn't always appear to match his actions.

@plagasse.bsky.social is the Address in Reply to the Speech from the Throne a confidence motion/vote in Canadian parliamentary tradition?

I once again find myself in a situation where holds at the library are becoming ready at a clip outpacing my reading through my current reads. Looks like a couple ready by tomorrow and I’m not ready for them! They’re not light reads either. Oh well 🤷.

Danielle Smith needs to be called out for what she is: a collaborator.
So Smith joked around when Shapiro raised 51st state talk, helped raise money for a far-right propaganda mill, and chilled with terrible people. This helps Canada … how?
“There was a massive conservative movement that's happening in Canada,” Shapiro said. “I think the obstacles to that need to be removed.”

Call me old fashioned, but I don’t think provincial leaders should be working with hostile foreign govts to interfere in a federal election to get their preferred party elected whose “perspective would be very much in sync with, I think…the new direction in America”

This is traitorous stuff.
Smith to Breitbart: “What I fear is the longer this dispute goes on, politicians posture, and it seems to be benefiting the Liberals right now. So I would hope we could put things on pause is what I’ve told administration officials. Let’s just put things on pause so we can get through an election.”
