See, that's the additional joy with using historical art: You can actually learn something from it and get joy from recognizing it. So, I really don't know why they wouldn't use historical art instead...

Btw, I've had a conversation with someone before who said Antonia's portrait had John Singer Sargent vibes, but I didn't know about the specific piece it was based on. So, thanks for that! 😊

Looking at both portraits again (Carlo's and Antonia's), I couldn't spot any obvious giveaways myself, but then again, I'm not an artist. (Feel free to educate me, though!)

I thought it was only the background props (I mean, not as if that wasn't bad enough already...), but if they used AI for any of the story-relevant portraits/pictures, that would be a major disappointment...

But yeah, the fact you even have to wonder these things is really depressing...

And yeah, it would've been a great opportunity for additional worldbuilding - for example that image with the ships, how about a painting showing Krat's harbor? And that map, how about sneaking in a peek of Krat's surrounding area? (Which I always assumed it was! >.<)

YESSS, that's exactly what I was thinking, too! LoP LOVES its historical references (I wrote multiple blog posts on its historical inspirations), so using real-life historical artworks instead would've been great. (Or maybe slightly altered versions of historical artworks to fit the LoP universe.)

Also, just to make sure: You mean the pictures of Baby Carlo from Overture, right? Those in the Rose Estate? (I remember there being a picture in the dormitory of Carlo, Romeo, and I believe Sophia together.)

(E.g. St. Frangelico Cathedral, Estella Opera House, Elysion Boulevard house interior) I did feel like they looked kinda iffy, but I just chose to believe they were kinda badly photoshopped. Now though, I'm not sure...

Would you mind linking that concept art with the Venigni Works sign? I went through the whole art book again looking for it, but I didn't spot it.

It is! And it's a real pity that English-speaking readers can't enjoy it, too... 😩
I read the first novel during June/Pride Month as well! Guess that gets me motivated. 😂😊
