Postdoc @CEFRES (Prague), examining literature and film by Vietnamese diaspora across Europe. PhD in francophone autofictional return narratives. She/her 🏳️‍🌈
Was extremely happy to attend a panel discussion about the Vietnamese diaspora at the Goethe Institute in Prague yesterday! Lots of discussion about central Europe, VN migration to the Eastern bloc (migrant workers in particular), and their invisibility as the so-called "model minority"

We were talking about life in Leipzig and moving back to Ireland just the other day. Then AfD wins elections in Saxony-Anhalt and Ireland proposes to restrict access to citizenship "to be more in line with other European Union member states".

“We learn by making analogies,” [Marianne] Hirsch said. “Now the university is saying that’s off-limits. How can you have a university course where ideas are not up for discussion or interpretation?”

Hirsch, daughter of two Holocaust survivors, is now thinking of leaving the classroom altogether.

Ecstatic to have passed my Viva yesterday! It was privilege to be able to discuss my work with @sharaerua.bsky.social and @cforsdick.bsky.social, and I'm grateful for all your insights and such a wonderful discussion.
Félicitations to @maikanguyen.bsky.social who passed her viva yesterday, speaking with great clarity and sensitivity about her doctoral thesis, 'Writing Home: Haiti and Vietnam in the Autofiction of Dany Laferrière and Anna Moï'. It was a pleasure and honour to examine the work. Bravo, Docteur!

The European Commission has proposed setting up more migration centres, even outside of the EU, to detain and deport migrants. What that does: create spaces where we don't have to see, think about - and therefore contest - how these people are treated.

Evropská komise představila návrh, který má zajistit rychlejší navracení migrantů, jimž členský stát odmítl udělit azyl. Součástí plánu jsou i centra mimo Evropskou unii, kam budou posíláni. Návrh musejí schválit vlády a poslanci. Popisujeme, co v něm je.

Given the nature of some of the submissions I've had so far, I've updated the website's Call for Submissions to include song/music!

Experimentation with genre and form is very much encouraged.

There's no rest for the mythic - Call for Submissions closes 30 April.
I'm developing a creative anthology related to my research. Please share this Call for Submissions widely with anyone you think might be interested!

Something mythic this way comes ...
