If you have never looked into cave paintings start with the wiki for some amazing examples and deep dive from there. Seeing marks made by people from that long ago does something to your brain.

This Zapotec (from Oaxaca) effigy vessel, c. 500 CE, features a figure in an elaborate bird-butterfly headdress holding a staff and copal bag. Used in ritual offerings, the bird-like helmets shows the "descending bird" motif, signifying a bridge between the earthly realm and the heavens.
