It’s giving

Alright, let’s hear it.

“Nintendo, that’s the fourth time you’ve remade Star Fox 64 in less than 30 years.”

Grandia 3. It being the first one I played (and not having much internet access at the time) meant I wasn’t comparing it to its predecessors and I had a blast, it and DQ8 are games I borrowed from my library and were foundational in getting me into RPGs as much as I am.

Ah, I think I may have found the source of the issue…

El Paso, Elsewhere has been described to me as “What if Max Payne but with vampires and werewolves?” I’ll admit the only reason I haven’t booted this one up is to save it for stream. Alas, the people repeatedly vote otherwise 😔

Much to @markusgustav.bsky.social ‘s chagrin, I still need to play Homeworld. I’m mediocre at best with rts games, so a full 3D space one seems daunting. But I’ve heard the story is excellent!

After seeing Casey Explosion doing this I d̶e̶c̶i̶d̶e̶d̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶r̶i̶p̶ ̶o̶f̶f̶ was inspired to give it a try myself, let’s see what we get in the depths of the backlog

Don’t have anything combat ready, but in Dad’s retirement he sometimes comes back from trips with weapons. They’re for display, but the sentiment is sweet.

1. Tomb Raider Chronicles

An anthology of sorts, this game takes four mini adventures of Lara. But some of the stories, especially the last one, feel like rushed, near indecipherable messes with lots of bugs to boot. Knowing that it was rushed out to buy time for AoD makes things click into place.

2. The Callisto Protocol

I hadn’t heard good things about this one, but I wanted to give it a try. And it’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s very tedious. The combat never feels super engaging or tactical, and you will quickly learn to loathe the grub monsters in crates.

3. Ghostrunner 2

This one hurt. While the boss fights are a bit better, the game trades out its tight linear focus for breadth and big open maps and it’s weaker for that decision. It’s also much buggier than its predecessor, causing one stream to end on a softlock that required a level restart.

4. Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness

The last of the original run of Tomb Raider games. It’s ambitious, trying a lot of new things. Few of them are for the better. A hub area that gets abandoned within the opening hours, a stamina system, a stealth system, all of them half baked.

5. Alchemist’s Castle

This one’s as low as it is because I almost feel bad for putting it on here. The game’s $1, made based off a game jam, and is not very long. But its concept of a metroidvania where you need to unlock everything, including jumping and attacking, proved frustrating.

1. Metaphor ReFantazio

Surprised? This is the longest game I’ve streamed to date, and it was agonizing to not be able to keep going off stream. A robust class system, inspired art style, and harrowing story of wanting to make the world better easily make this my #1 pick.
December 24, 2025 at 1:09 PM
2. Fear The Spotlight

Did you know Blumhouse made a games division? Their debut game is excellent. A bite sized throwback to early Playstation horror, despite some grisly subject matter the game manages to be shockingly wholesome and sweet while also being well designed.
December 24, 2025 at 1:09 PM
3. Labyrinth of The Demon King

For a throwback to early playstation horror with a medieval Japanese horror focus, LotDK is oozing (sometimes literally) with atmosphere, supported by a Kings Field skeleton. It’s grimy, scratchy, and unnerving, which is exactly what it wants to be.

4. Trepang ²

Ya kids like F.E.A.R.? Crysis? S.C.P.? Trepang ²’s got a little bit of all of them (mostly F.E.A.R.), where you’re given slow-mo, invisibility, and a highly customizable array of weapons to unleash high octane violence against hapless goons and bizarre anomalies.

5. Nina Aquila: Legal Eagle Season One.

The itch dot io backlog keeps on giving! This goofy and charming Ace Attorney-alike is packed full of minigames and loving anime shoutouts, all while bouncing around a memorable cast of characters. Also the devs are based 👍

I think the weighting on these is a little off, cause look how much “Hunting” gets for playing one Monster Hunter game

Milly, from Trigun. The gentle, goofy giant was my favorite character from the show, and it’s a crime she wasn’t in Stampede.
