Yeh sorry I'm not talking about the average! The average time would definitely be falling as participation increases. But on top of that the top absolute 50 or 100 runners in long standing races are slower than they were decades ago.

But that wouldn't slow down the top 100? If more people did it you'd expect the top 100 to be faster as the pool of entrants was bigger

The general public have been getting slower at long distance running over time. I've read this before about fell running. My guess, people eat more junk food and booze now, as well as more other leisure and entertainment that weren't available back then so the baseline level of fitness is worse

Based on the times article if you adjust for number of games championship is behind PL Bundesliga La Liga and Series A.

That table in the article isn't adjusted for number of games. Championship has 46 rounds of matches. The bundesliga 34.

Still a nice stat though.

Spurs spent £1bn on a 60k inner city stadium, and Bayern spent €150mn on a 75k stadium out of town.

The difference in season ticket prices that allows (€200 versus £850) is probably what the fans are happier about. Even if not as convenient.

If you were building towns from scratch, which some countries had to do in the 1950s. You wouldn't put the municipal sports arena in the residential area.

You'd put them in places like the Etihad, Old Trafford or Madejski
