EoSD New Classic is awesome because the original game couldn't be played on modern hardware without mods to make the game run better. And even then when I open it up on my PC it sometimes just refuses to run. Both EoSD New Classic and EoSD Classic are great for making the game more accessible.

I bet it won't be the same experience playing it in 2026, but as someone who played it when it came out in 2008, I really loved the Subspace Emissary. All of the different game series come together beautifully with some amazing BGM and I feel nostalgic for it.

It is absolutely wild. Impressive to dig up so many former record replays.

There is also the fact that we (players) are quite disconnected from the fandom, so we tend to ignore/not notice changes, especially if we have said a name for many years. We still use Hourai Jewel, a pre-2010 translation iirc, and even Sumizome. It goes that far back.

Another point is the special case of Reimu's spell. It is so famous and widespread; its name Fantasy Seal was used for *more than two decades*.

It is so established that changing it after that long was really crazy to me. Most people still call it Fantasy Seal because it is so widespread. (3/4)

The confusion is also notorious with spell card names in the gameplay community, since for obv reasons we use those a lot.

Secondly, it is a common sentiment among Touhou players to prefer older names because they "just sound better". Many newer spell names are considered not as cool. (2/4)

I have mixed feelings about it myself, specifically when *names* are changed.

For one, the confusion is really annoying (new fans joining + existing fans who use existing names). Example: youtube video from the 2010s uses certain song name, which is now unrecognisable by new fans. (1/4)

Late but I am exactly like this! My major interests tend to be lifelong. I just hold on to things and I also tend to be really hard to get into something new. Likely because I simply lack the brain capacity for it, as I'm already too preoccupied by my existing interests.
