The whole building shook right in the middle of micro theory! It’s probably a sign that I should pay more attention to mechanism design

How did such a large share of the world’s population escape extreme poverty? Paul Niehaus, Tom Vogl and I were curious and are excited to share with you what we've found.

These seeds are meant to be planted before the annual rain season. But it’s been the driest winter in 150 years — since they started recording. So I still planted them now. Hopefully it will rain on Sunday 🌧️🌷🌻 and help put out some of the fires

Here is the handbook I was missing as a PhD student! Edited by Dirk Schindler & Arjan Lejour, it includes contributions by more than 40 scholars on all aspects of tax haven research in economics. My chapter "Tax Havens and Illicit Financial Flows"... (1/5)

People hate on the humanities, but as @seanmcarroll.bsky.social said,

"But what really makes me laugh is the idea that philosophy doesn't matter [...] you can't help but do philosophy. You can only do it well or do it badly." (link)

I think we underestimate how many philo Qs we encounter

🚨New paper: State Capacity for Building Infrastructure

US infrastructure construction (transportation, energy, etc.) is often costly & slow.

This is very interesting #EconJMP by @sahilchinoy.bsky.social.

Democrats & Republicans will sacrifice ~3% salary ($2k/year) for ideologically aligned workplaces.

I wonder if these kinds of tax breakdowns affect attitudes toward taxation, voting behavior and/or migration decisions by making regional taxes more salient.

Cuz on the one hand I'm like "wow 0.25% is not that much" but on the other I'm like "I wonder if taxes are lower in the next county over"

Imma be out here defending humanities education and the arts till I drop dead. I think the pursuit of knowledge is intrinsically worthwhile and stimulating diversity of thought leads to better scholarship.

Being back in New Haven last weekend affirmed that I don’t need seasons in my life, like at all.

I wore a short-sleeved, above-knee dress today and had dinner outside— the way the Californian God intended.

Investors can use highly correlated ETFs to harvest capital losses without violating the wash-sale rule. By exploiting the tax loophole, investors earn a better return than the index.

The annual tax revenue loss is equal to approximately $25 billion.

It would not totally surprise me if the next administration focuses their mass deportation efforts on lawfully present immigrants, leaving our society's most vulnerable workers open to even worse exploitation. The term "illegals" was never about lawful status. It was always about nativism & racism.
