This is like one of the largest schisms between local vs national Dems. The national 'party' either doesn't distribute funds to state and local candidates unless those races/candidates meet an increasingly narrow and confused set of criteria.
Dem leadership are political know-nothings.

These are really clever. Not sure what to think of the last one

Change my mind then. Why should I be an effective altruism? I'm hoping I can get a better definition than using excess money to help others which is an answer for babies.
September 17, 2026 at 10:34 PM
You seem confused. I'm deliberately not debating EA for the same reasons I don't debate flat earthers or maga - I only risk elevating an invalid worldview for no benefit.

Your definition sucks because it's vague and captures none of the **nuance** that makes EA distinct from other ideas.

I don't think I'm under any obligation to seriously engage with every stupid idea under the sun. Your own definition stinks even worse than my joke definition lol.

Think of all the constituents Republicans could please, if only the richest idiots in existence had even more money to save the world! Trump is sleeping on this effective altruism business.

Wes Chatham absolutely crushed it as Amos Burton. It's one of the rare cases where I'm *glad* my vision of the books was colored by the show. The show Amos IS book Amos and it brought so much depth to the books for me.

I would very much like to change this

I know many tech workers who have heavily adopted 'AI' by some combination of career necessity and propaganda. Regardless, very few view it positively. They seem to understand it changes the nature of our work for the worse, but don't seem to recognize its position within a broader struggle.
one of my favorite things about AI discourse is how the pro-AI losers will sneer "You are simply a luddite who fears technological innovation"

but then every single person I've spoken to who actually works in the tech industry fucking LOATHES it & is praying for its downfall

Definitely not as good as milk but it'll do in a pinch! Give it a shot
September 6, 2026 at 4:55 AM
A tiny pinch of salt to black coffee makes it taste creamier. I'll do that when I'm out of milk and don't want to run to the corner store

Which of those do you mean by the hippy comment?
Tankie I can understand; I don't think shitlibs realize how dumb they sound when they say it, but I can read between the lines. I genuinely have no idea how to interpret hippies from your comment.
September 5, 2026 at 2:06 PM
Who are you even referring to with 'tankies and hippies'?

My prediction is that the whigs and carpet baggers will break for Republicans and I'll just be stuck here in a massive anachronism.

We live inside a machine capable of producing nearly incalculable human suffering, we watch it produce that suffering over and over, and neither the suffering nor our knowledge of it is sufficient to make the machine stop. I am overcome sometimes by the horror and the grief of belonging to it.

Hey sir, Chicago only gets like 3 months of warm weather a year. Please let us keep it just a bit longer?

I ordered Nerd Reich from my local bookstore a few days ago. I'm so excited to read it (if for no other reason than to have something insightful to say when someone makes comment on the provocative title).

I feel my evangelical experience was different from a straight male perspective. The few women ministers I met were intensely asexual and appropriately aloof. The 'men'isters fostered intense, parasocial relationships with girls in a somewhat romantic sense, but differently from boys.

I'm for expanding services with automation - how do we actually make that happen? Individual capitalists own all the things that could produce the economic surplus required. Marxism is the leading body of work that investigates this question. Call it whatever you like, but we need to engage with it

I saw your other reply to this comment, but replying here.

I generally agree with everything you've said, but I think you're letting the baggage of communism preclude you from building the society you want.
