If city leaders were serious about protecting people's lives, they would install solid infrastructure that puts the burden of consequence on the car and its driver, rather than the people and property outside of it.
How much do you thing the city spends on replacing the signs on the pedestrian islands on Humboldt after they get repeatedly run over? Sure makes me feel safe as a pedestrian in this area.

My story on Asia's Place, a new shelter named for a 22 Black trans woman murdered in Houston in 2020. It will serve LGBTQ youth age 15-17 in need of emergency housing. Before now, the closest shelter of its kind was in Austin, nearly 3 hours away:
