The model tram above the door was a local landmark for years and was displayed in the People's Palace after the tenement was demolished in the 70s. It can now be found at Maryhill Burgh Halls.

We actually know very little about Law himself. He was born in Linlithgow, around 30 when he painted this, and lived just off St George's Cross with his wife and two young sons. Beyond that, the trail goes cold, only one other painting of his has ever been found.

It traces the story of the Forth & Clyde Canal through Maryhill, from its 18th century engineering right up to the work shaping its future today.
