Recap on the crazy journey that has been #Shipaton for the first month.

Got my first 2 real premium purchases in the past days whereas the app has been out for a month and a half. I guess my new winback push notifications are doing great work.

I just noticed that I never posted why I built Ryokô Planner. So here it is!

Spent 4 days rebuilding Ryokô Planner's retention with OneSignal.

Retention is a real challenge with a travel app. My goal was to reengage users from trip planning to departure, highlighting premium features & new content.

Smooth experience. Great tool!

Little recap of my experiment of putting bookmarks in manga bookstores in my city. In one month, 13 people went to my website from the QR code on it.
Still have to find a way to tell if it led to app downloads.
Do you know a way to do it?

I got my first 1-star review on Ryokô Planner. I don't really know how to feel. This is good criticism but at the same time the way of saying it is so... mean. At least they really tried the app and gave me improvement priorities.

I spent days figuring out why Ryokô Planner's social media got no engagement.

I studied what successful creators do and adapted their playbook without compromising who I am.

It's not perfect, but my latest video got WAY more engagement.

Progress 🙌

I left some Ryokô Planner bookmarks in my local manga bookstores and Japan related shops. Hoping to gain some local traction.
Have you ever tried IRL marketing?

Your Build-in-Public Followers Are Not Your Users. Build-FOR-Public Instead | HackerNoon
Build-in-public followers are not your users. For Shipaton I let a Reddit survey, a persona, and Japan conventions decide what to ship, not my indie timeline.

Last week, I started posting on Ryokô Planner social medias interviews about Japan I filmed at a Japan Convention in Germany. The view counts on the different vidéos and on different platforms are so different. Social media is so hard to understand.

During Ryokô Planner beta, I presented the app at a Japan convention. It was the opportunity to meet my target audience, get beta testers and get early feedback.

Have you ever tried IRL marketing for your app? While not efficient, I find it insightful.

Today I implemented a trip sharing feature allowing to generate a video animation of your trip. My hope is that people use it to share their trip on social media.
What do you think about it?

My app was approved on App Store on first try. Here is what I almost forgot to check before pushing the button:
- Check ALL your app is dark mode friendly
- Give a Premium account to the reviewer
- Check that your privacy policy includes third-parties SDK data manipulations.

My post yesterday about user feedback inspired me to write a HackerNoon article on user-centric product management: how I prioritized features for Ryokô Planner and met my target audience.

Spent the whole day writing it. Fingers crossed it gets approved 🤞

The best kind of notification as a solo founder:

“Someone just suggested a place to add to your app.”

They’re actually using it 🥹

In-app feedback + automatic email notifications is a game-changer.
