#GlenHansard died today. I had never heard of him until I watched the Academy Awards when his song won the award and was played during the show. Made me go watch Once and if you love songs, this is a movie for you. Became a huge fan after that

ICE has a habit of stealing people’s jewelry, watches, religious artifacts, cell phones.

Blatant theft is far from the worst they do (assault, rape, leaving people to die, etc)

This is not an agency that can be reformed. Abolish ICE. Abolish DHS.
“Sister Letty’s rosary is still in an ICE evidence bag somewhere. Nobody at the Department of Homeland Security will say where, or why agents took it off her in the first place.” migrantinsider.com/p/ice-confis...

ICE is not about immigration. ICE is not about the southern border. ICE is about normalizing paramilitary force on our streets.

It cannot be reformed. It cannot be retrained. ICE must be abolished.

Couldn't do it. This is also limited to newspaper comics or I might add Achewood. I'm definitely missing a few, this is just off the top of my head.

I liked reading a lot of newspaper comics as a kid and not all of them held up but honestly I think Calvin and Hobbes has gotten better as I’ve aged

truly a masterpiece, and endless props to Watterson for ending it on his own terms
Happy birthday to Bill Watterson, the creator of Calvin and Hobbes! Born on July 5, 1958.

PSA for everyone reading The Odyssey right now from an English major: please, I implore you to read the Emily Wilson translation. It is the superior version for me. The most direct, literal, and accurate to the source material. I rec the audiobook too that helps you hear the rhythms of the language.

NEW — The sentencing of the Prairieland demonstrators shows the brutality of Trump's war on dissent, but it's not without precedent, @kimkelly.bsky.social writes.

History shows us the government has always punished anti-fascism. But this time we can change the narrative in real time.

From Haymarket to Prairieland: How dissent has unleashed the long arm of the law
The Prairieland sentencing has dark historical parallels, Kim Kelly writes. But we can change the end of the current story.

Having never eaten in Portland I don't know if this is accurate, but I hope to hell it is.
this is a thing about portland, you might order a burger from someone with FUCK YOU tattooed under their eyes who barely acknowledges you and spends the next 15 minutes on their phone and then 20 minutes later they’ll slam down a plate of one of the most memorable things you have ever eaten
as an occasional tourist I think I’ve only run into this once in Portland and it was pretty mild on the surly scale. and I still go back there when I visit because their cheeseburger was one of the best I’ve ever had
