Postdoc at the Chinese Academy of Science in Shanghai studying working memory & cognitive control.
New work with a special person. Glad we are still together after this one.
Proud to share our latest preprint with my very special @mengya-zhang.bsky.social (🥰).

Briefly, we studied how the degree to which CA1 responses are the same (reinstatement) or different (novelty response) supports memory, echoing a central tension in the field.

My latest work on how both hippocampal consistency and differentiation can support single-item recognition memory.

I am very excited to share this. 🧵

Most of us agree that the HC is critical for associative memory but there is growing work showing it does much more (WM etc.). Recognition partly relies on a global matching, which based on influential models is not supported by HC.

My latest pre-print. If you're at #CNS2026 and wanna have a chat, come to my poster (P6/12).

I will soon post a summary thread. 🧵

🧠 New paper alert (the 1st one from our new lab)!
Led by 1st author & VR wizard @jaquent.bsky.social

How do our brains distinguish novel from familiar places as we explore our environments, e.g., a new city?

Amazing #RegisteredReport led by Sumaiyah Raza from @mrccbu.bsky.social.

We (again) found evidence against a memory benefit of spatial novelty. However, this time we did find a retroactive benefit of rest, which highlights that more work is needed here.

Final post #ohbm2025 post (I promise).

I have never seen that many different species of wild animals in a city before coming to #Brisbane.

Did you ever wanted to see a visualisation how two common brain 🧠 network parcellations (Yeo 7 vs. CAB NP) differ?

Here is a small something I quickly cooked up because I was curious myself.

🧠 Thrilled to share our latest study, now published in PLOS Biology! 🌟

journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

In this work, conducted by me and Dr. Qing Yu at the Institute of Neuroscience, we uncovered how the brain encodes and implements abstract task information (such as goals) in working memory.
The representation of abstract goals in working memory is supported by task-congruent neural geometry
Successful goal-directed behavior requires that abstract task goals are maintained and implemented in working memory - how does this occur? This neuroimaging study shows that the frontal cortex mainta...

Hi everyone!
I convinced none less than the best person (@mengya-zhang.bsky.social) in the universe to join. Give her a follow (especially anyone interested in working memory or cognitive control).
