I had been hearing that “we were still in the early stages” of blockchain well over a decade after Bitcoin became a thing as an excuse for why there was no viable product built on blockchain. The group of crypto boosters and the group of AI boosters is a single circle in the Venn diagram.
We are not in the early days of AI - we're four years in. AI's capabilities are not "exponentially growing," and nobody saying this can actually explain what it means. Block's layoffs were not about AI. And nobody's revenues are seeing meaningful growth from AI.

I say this as someone who loves technology but hates the tech industry - why do we have to love technology? why do we have to give something like AI clemency for its errors? It's a product we are being sold, it should have to earn our money or attention.
