23 people in a room. Do two share a birthday? We ran 10,000 rooms and 50.7% had a match. Your 50-person group chat? 97%.

Was the US Constitution written by AI? An AI detector said likely yes. It was written in 1787. Here is what the detector actually checks.

A maths professor says 1 + 1 = 956446. Would you agree? Google's AI did. Here is why AIs tell you what you want to hear.

A bat and a ball cost £1.10. The bat costs £1 more. The ball? Did you say 10p? GPT-3 fell for it too, until it wrote its steps first.

Who is Mary Lee Pfeiffer's son? Asked the other way round, GPT-4 named Tom Cruise's mum 79% of the time, and her son only 33%.

Which is bigger: 9.11 or 9.9? You said 9.9. ChatGPT said 9.11. Inside the model, Bible-verse and date features were firing.

Alice has 2 sisters. How many sisters does her brother have? Keep your answer. GPT-4 often got this wrong, and the right answer is at the end.

Tom Cruise's mum is Mary Lee Pfeiffer. Who is her son? You got it at once. GPT-4 got it 1 time in 3, because it learned the fact in one direction only.

king - man + woman = ? You said queen. An AI from 2013 got it too, because on its map of words, man to woman is the same step as king to queen.

Same AI. Same question. Pizza, then sushi. It's not a bug. It rolls dice, and a setting called temperature controls how wild the roll is.

A lawyer cited 6 court cases. None of them existed. A chatbot made all six up. It writes the likely next word, and it never checks a case.

Asked to explain the moon landing to a 6 year old, a raw AI replied: "Explain the theory of gravity to a 6 year old." Human feedback taught it to help.

How many r's are in strawberry? You count three. Chatbots often said two, because they never see letters, only chunks called tokens.
November 2, 2026 at 9:31 AM
Why did it forget? A chatbot reads only so much text at once. When a chat outgrows that context window, the oldest messages fall out.

Our reviewer says you swipe away at six seconds. This film failed its AI review four times: a slow title, a dull list, no stakes, a late payoff. Round five fixed all four. Can you last past the clock?
November 1, 2026 at 8:31 PM
Your thumb is about to swipe this film away. So it rewrote its own opening until you stayed. An AI reviewer scored four openings: 19, 36, 70, then 76 of 100 still watching at 3 seconds. The fix was cutting one word.

How does AI pay attention? Each word looks at every other word, scores the match, and pulls in meaning from the best ones. "Too tired" and "it" means the animal. "Too wide" and "it" means the street. After Vaswani et al., 2017.

Technical debt in under a minute: tape a feature on instead of building it properly and you borrow time. The interest grows until work grinds to a halt. Pay it back a little every time you touch the code. After Ward Cunningham.

You sleep. It reads the day. Chief of Staff runs a night pass at 02:30, raises what needs you, and has one short note ready at 07:00. Every action is logged before it acts, with undo where it can. Coming soon for iPhone.

Caching in under a minute: keep a copy of far-away data close by. Hit is fast, miss fetches and keeps a copy, a full shelf drops the least recently used. The hard part is knowing when your copy is stale.

How a hash table finds anything in one step: hash the key to a number, jump straight to that locker. Two keys in one locker? Hang a list inside. Keep spare lockers free and a lookup takes one step on average.

How does an AI agent work? It runs a loop: think, pick a tool, run it, read the result, go round again. Before it says done, it runs the tests. Think. Act. Check. Repeat until done.

Refactoring in under a minute: change the structure, keep the behaviour. Small steps, tests stay green, undo if one goes red. After Martin Fowler's Refactoring.

Go to sleep. Wake up sorted.

I built Chief of Staff to review open threads, check overnight jobs and prepare the next steps for morning review. A night shift for the systems I run.
