When I was in middle school, I learned there were only two genders. When I did my bachelors in Biology. I learned that there are also people who are intersex and the importance of the SRY gene. When I completed my Masters in Neurosciences. Hearned that sex is already hard to define, and gender is both social and in the brain - making everything a lot more complex. When people say "It's basic biology" they are telling you they haven't moved past middle school. - Rebecca Helm

But I am not the caterpillar in your picturesque portrayal of perfection. I am not sad, but I am wistfully wanting better, I am not miserable, but I am steeped in unease with my current corpus, I am not quiet, or shy, or comfortable, but I am discomfited by the rigid voice I must use, I am not happy, yet, but I am finding joy in the journey. I am not handsome; I do not wish to be; but I am beautiful I see it in my silken hair which trails me proudly, a mark of my efforts and maturity, I see it in my softened eyes, which crinkle with pride at my growing reflection, I see it in my graceful lips, which smile without teeth as I speak my truth, I see it in every fiber of my being, which bristles with glee as I become the person I want to be. I am not guided by knowledge, by opinion, but I am guided by instinct, The chrysalis is guided by instinct, right and wrong, euphoria and dysphoria: If it loves the path it is on, it will continue to evolve. If it hates the path, it will break open and escape the changes. The chrysalis is not dependent on you, but it does wish for you to nurture it.

If I was me, then I would be proud I’d have no fear, of thinking outloud I’d say every truth, I’d write it out I would burn the house of lies down. If I was me, then I’d do my best I’d give all I have, to help all the rest I wouldn’t be scared, of being seen Cause when they look they’d see the real me. I think that it’s time, to figure this out Cause if I tried being me, I could’ve been it by now I know this is new, but please understand Cause I don’t know who the hell I am.
