Chris Crawford was lamenting even in the 80's that video games were learning to model spatial interaction, but not social interactions. And the fact that he couldn't make the games he wanted drove him out of the industry in I think '92?

When I think of that, I rememeber how the prevailing opinion for a few decades was that film wasn't art.
If you read early 20th century writings on the arts, film is NEVER included, and it's kind of jarring.

The Game Boy trilogy are true gaidens- I think best played in order, after you've been introduced to Wizardry.
(Really a quadrilogy, Wiz gaiden 4 was for Super Famicom)
After Wiz1, going through the original trilogy or the Gaiden is okay.
Wizardry 1-3 GBC ports way scaled down- avoid

I would definitely recommend starting with the first- as it's a little easier.
But if you haven't played Wizardry, I would recommend beginning with either the Super Famicom remake of the original trilogy, or the modern remake of the first one to get used to how it works.
