absolutely gorgeous reflection on Dolly here from Peter Coviello
Dolly, Josephine, And Me | Defector
Like all people not gravely deficient of soul, I teared up a little when I heard Dolly Parton died. I am by nature something of a patch of soft pavement—easily impressed upon —and so there’s not much ...

The contrast with the endless strengthening of "stand your ground" laws is stark.
Happening now:

A rally is underway in downtown Chicago in support of Keshia Golden, a local mother facing murder charges for fatally stabbing her abusive partner Calvin Sidney, reportedly to defend herself and her-then unborn child after Sidney slammed her head into a kitchen counter, in 2022.

This is always the way with the defenders of meritocracy. They define it entirely by whether they and other white men advance without impediment and faster than everyone else.
His comment about becoming "head of the department of eugenics and race science at Harvard" seems to confirm that his whole DEI/race/woke-obsession is just him never having gotten over the fact that he was rejected at Harvard

A good time to donate to Wikipedia.
Lowkey excellent thing about Wikipedia: accurately describing the extremism and lies of right-wingers because its sole concern is provable truth, while the media tiptoes around accurately describing whats happening to avoid appearing “biased” against the extremists and liars
ICYMI, over the past two weeks, English-language Wikipedia editors have engaged in a successful effort to change the first paragraph of the Republican Party entry to reflect its current status as a "neo-nationalist" political party.

WOW -- Danish reporter *goes there* with Rutte

"You sit next to Trump when he talks about conquering Greenland, lashes out at allies like Spain -- things it doesn't seem like the old Mark Rutte would approve of. Does this have any affect on your self-respect when you sit there and say nothing?"

The flag for Christian-occupied Jerusalem is one of Hegseth's tattoos. He's made no secret of his desire to resume crusading.
Hegseth: "God deserves all the glory. Tens of thousands of sorties, refuelings, and strikes, carried out under the protection of divine providence. A massive effort with miraculous protection."

And machine guns weren't around when the 2nd amendment was passed, but that doesn't bother him.
Alito said “illegal immigration” was not a known problem when the 14th Amendment was passed — e.g. the complete lack of support for Trump’s interpretation in the historical record doesn’t matter.

If you just look at the people who support our action, then support for our action is very high.
BRENNAN: 60% of Americans disapprove of military action against Iran. 57% think the conflict is going badly. How do you tell the American people they're wrong?

WALTZ: Well, I could quote a whole slew of polls that show, for example, self-described MAGA Republicans give the president 100% approval
