I feel that calling the students who take a gen ed film class “film students” is misleading. In a course like the one taken by the UT Austin student, a vanishingly small number of the enrolled will actually major in film
I taught a video making class last semester and I can confirm that getting students to pay attention even to *contemporary animated shorts* is getting more challenging every year.
I like the "slow cinema" approach. Reclaiming our attention is a skill we can and should teach.
