It helps to think about fascism as the moment the oppression a state exerts on countries they consider colonies and "lesser" peoples swings back around to the homeland and the same tactics of extraction, exploitation, and control become more widespread among their own citizens.

Another reminder: if there exists *any* class of people who don't have due process rights, then *nobody* actually has due process rights because the government can always just say you're in that class.
A US-born woman born was confronted by sheriff deputies in Louisiana who were convinced her ID and social security card were fakes. They turned her over to ICE, who shackled her & took her an hour away. Even after a lawyer convinced ICE of the woman's citizenship the sheriff says they did no wrong
U.S. citizen stopped in Lafayette, shackled, and detained in Louisiana ICE facility | The Lens
The U.S.-born young mother presented ICE and sheriff’s deputies with her ID and Social Security card. Agents took her anyway.

My whole life, advocating war has been fed to me as “the adult position,” akin to drinking your coffee black or reading the business section of the newspaper. Let’s be very clear — war is the childish nonsense of impulsive destructive idiots playing baby-brained video games with real human lives.

Re-reading Jane Eyre and came back here for your comments
Think I’m gonna do a casual read through of either Pride & Prejudice or Jane Eyre. I read both several times in undergrad and grad school, but which one do people prefer returning to after a long pause?

There is no such thing as “saving” money by cutting social programs. Need still exists, hunger still exists, illness still exists. Cuts merely push the remedies for these many forms of suffering into crueler social relations and more chaotic social outcomes.

It is violent. It’s violent to take uncompensated work from people, run it through a sausage grinder, and then expect to be paid for it.
But it also highlights what these thieving fucks can’t understand, which is that writing and knowledge is more than quickly getting words on the page.

This was just posted by @tbretc.bsky.social on another platform. The Chicago Sun-Times obviously gets ChatGPT to write a ‘summer reads’ feature almost entirely made up of real authors but completely fake books. What are we coming to?
