The primary objective of journalism is supposed to be telling the truth. It is a DECISION on the part of USA Today to know that new details have emerged about this case and to refuse to update an old story that is still circulating and still shaming Jane Doe.

I'm not linking the piece because I'd like for as few people to read it as possible. I'm writing about it here because:

- I want to be clear about what happened to anyone who saw that article and felt betrayed to see me associated with it.

- These are bad decisions that deserve public shame.

What a life Dolly Parton led. Has anyone ever done more good while having more fun?

May we each honor her by continually finding out who we are and doing it on purpose.

I'm seeing a lot of slander for the #loveislandus intro song.

Those of us with a lifetime of Bollywood exposure know an item song when we see one and the stranger or more awkward the move, the more iconic

This incident (not isolated, BTW) was part of why I was unsurprised to see health systems capitulating and allowing I C E access to patients admitted to wards/units.

The criminalization of disabled and chronically ill patients is ripe ground for further violations of patients' privacy and rights.
My best friend died an eminently preventable death after being ignored by doctors and nurses and accused of being a "seeker" (they had security toss her bags and throw out her medications). Turned out she had a pulmonary embolism.

We cannot solve the maternal health crisis without midwives—they are a key part of the solution in Georgia and nationwide.

Yet under Georgia law, they are treated like criminals. That’s why we’re suing. https://bit.ly/48DsbOm
Black women in Georgia turn to midwives for safer births – so why does the state criminalize many of them?
A new lawsuit seeks to decriminalize the work of midwives banned from providing care amid a worsening maternal health crisis

It seems to me like a lot of people haven't followed the details of why folks have issues with Substack, and basically assume that leaving the platform for moral or social reasons just automatically means giving up money.

But I don't think that's supported by the actual math.
There's a lot of talk about leaving Substack & whether it will be the death-knell of your newsletter. I have been on Beehiiv for 7 months now & @tlpavlich.gay helped me run some numbers. So, was leaving Substack worth it? The answer, for me, has been a resounding "yes."

Here are the hard numbers:

Doyley had no lawyer or advocate — no one to explain to her what, exactly, was going on.

There are at least three major news stories about sexual assault and abuse of power by men in prominent positions this week. Government, labor, academia; the culture is everywhere, and women disproportionally bear the weight of the consequences.

If this week feels extra heavy, be kind to yourself.
