Another one is composition of spend changing - the inflation measure puts too much weight on disposable consumer goods and mortgage payments and not enough on rent, healthcare and food. This is the "we all already have a TV" arguement.

There are lots of explanations and it is probably several effects combined.
Negative polarization, at first against democrats during covid, and now against Trump, but because prices are sticky, not enough Republicans "flipped back" their sentiment to counteract anti-trump polarization.

Humans created the model, we know EXACTLY who to blame.
They can be prosecuted, their wealth can be taken from them.
As soon as you jail the first one of these assholes, all the models will suddenly become "aligned"

I not so secretly think that animal welfare laws dont really have any internal consistency and are more rooted in pets having cute faces that remind us of people, and not really about them being able to suffer or think. Creating an AI that thinks or suffers is no assurance of protection from us.

My cat thinks, but laws dont apply to him. If I illegally keep a pet tiger(who clearly thinks) and the tiger escapes and hurts someone, I'm on the hook in court not the tiger.
I dont have a strong opinion on the *ethics* of that existing arrangement, but it works as a legal regime.

Creating something that "sets its own foundational goals" is legally indistinct from "creating something with the creators' foundational goals." You cannot adjudicate a black box, so liability for all model actions must fall on the creator. From there the incentives to create "alignment" are simple

Are they going to spend 7000 dollars of electricity to hack the 400 bucks in my bank account tho?

The "can it think" debate is beside the point what about debating the actual danger to humans.

The 1 regulation needed is full legal liability for model creators - civil and criminal.

What position am I being asked to defend?
September 16, 2026 at 5:10 PM
Again, In the elections I get to vote in, this dynamic does not occur because the seats are not really competitive in the general. I vote for the furthest left viable candidate in each election including primaries. So no I'm not who you are talking about.

I was asked a direct question and I answered it. Sorry you did not find the answer pleasant to read, feel free to block me.

Presumably no, since I live in a solidly blue district in a solidly blue state. My reps are solid on trans issues thusfar.

I'm talking about their campaign strategy in the primary vs the general(messaging etc.) not if I personally believe them.
September 16, 2026 at 5:01 PM
But dont you see you have already depicted me as the angry transphobic wojack and yourself as the cool calm trans giggachad, how can I ever recover from your airtight arguementation?
