When I see someone I know at a convention and they don’t see me I get a little too close behind them and say under my breath “I got vicodin, got percocet, got weed.”

This is how the beginning of RDR2 and Horizon: Zero Dawn feel. Both renowned games but the initial 2-3 hours of gameplay is such a slog. Took me multiple attempts to make it through the intro of both.
I do not agree with the school of game design thought that the first two hours of an open world game should be a boring slog of backstory where you have to play as an injured/child version of your character.
