Yesterday, I sent a letter about how the Old English word “orc” became part of Ukraine’s language of war.

Here, russian occupiers are often called orcs.

The word travelled across languages, cultures and centuries before it reached us.

Yesterday, I sent a letter about the “russian world”, an ideology of russia’s special mission and influence beyond its borders.

I traced how it evolved over centuries.

Today, attacks on Kyiv resumed. They show what this “mission” looks like.

"incredible memories" vs "incredible support"⬇️
🙄 Envoys leave the swaps with "incredible memories".

This morning I woke up to a fundraiser almost closed, thanks to the incredible generosity of strangers.

We have different definitions of incredible. I prefer the one backing the defenders ❤️‍🔥

Let’s get wheels on the road 👇🏻

Arrived back in Scotland tonight and read that our ice hockey team Glasgow Clan played a match against Kyiv Capitals. So sorry I missed it. Capitals won 7-4.

Andy Burnham’s social care plan protects wealth, not those in need youtu.be/_bEyVo6-alM?... Why is Andy Burnham presuming that younger people with some of the highest overall tax rates should pay to protect those with wealth? This issue needs to be named - or he'll embed injustice.

I'm glad to see this. It's what many of us have been arguing for a long time, but until now no one in government seemed ready to listen. Let's hope we will begin to see an education policy which works for children, and for the 21st Century.

Very obliging of #r4today to lead with Reform’s ‘plan’ to stop the boats using the Royal Navy, pretending it’ll be some great WWII-style escapade, rather than a hateful, costly, diplomatically incontinent mess.
A total waste of everyone’s time as they’ll never be in power and it’s unworkable anyway.

We should never forget how the BBC has changed this country by giving endless airtime to Nigel Farage and other rightwing extremists, while shutting out progressive voices.
And why is #r4today giving (yet again) such prominence to a hair-brained scheme that has little chance to ever be implemented? A GE is unlikely soon and the threat of Reform winning it is apparently receding. What is the justification for legitimising it?

It's not new. The BBC favoured the right and extreme right from the very beginning. But the rightwing media has managed to persuade us that it's a left-liberal institution, and has used this myth to push it ever further rightwards. This book should be widely read. www.versobooks.com/en-gb/produc...
