Ah yes. I remember this from my DEWR days. A bastardised version of conscientious objection

They’re turning Wall Street offices into windowless studio Alexa-controlled apartments payable with bitcoins, or indentured labour & donated organs - haven’t you heard?

Etsy as a source is frickin funny 😁Would you like a crocheted saddle Made in Bulgaria to go ‘round again?

I also meant to link to the retrospective article which is pretty good.

Five years on, the lessons from the Rolling Stone rape story
The magazine’s publication – and ultimate retraction – of a story about an alleged gang-rape at the University of Virginia led to reflections about media ethics and understanding victims of sexual ass...

Something like this?

Obviously the subject matter merits news investigation but ironically this saga boosted the “false rape allegations” narrative

In first charges resulting from journalistic errors in A Rape on Campus, Dean Nicole Eramo says article caused ‘devastating’ damage to her reputation

It’s the best.
What took you so long?!

Indi is [was?] “orange”, not teal. Country independent is a different beast. Helen Haines has more in common with Tony Windsor, Rebekah Sharkie and Bob Katter. Kind of Tory with a welfare streak, populist, not wealthy 😀

Pocock won the ex-Liberal senate seat in the wealthy Australian Capital Territory, with a broad coalition of liberal/progressive voters. Much as I like Pocock his electorate shares common features with “teal” seats (educated, wealthier than most, investors)

Is the article written or subbed by AI? Has the ABC not heard of the National Employment Standards?

TBF the “In Short” summary got to the point. Also I don’t mind reporting that presents the welcome to country as part of the dawn service ceremony - rather than separate to it. And that the RSL drew no distinction. The RSL has come a long way. If you boo the welcome, you boo the diggers!

I wonder how much time they need to detonate such a plan?

I live a block away. There is nothing charming or villagey about that part of Carlisle Street. But the opponents of this development are very active - they had a booth set up at Saturday’s farmers market!

Bayside Melbourne feels like sub 10 degrees during the day. Gloomy & super windy. Winter is long enough without March joining in 😔

Agreed. 👍

The Howard space, sure. But I reckon Menzies invested a lot more in public infrastructure and public services than Albanese ever has. Albo is too busy sustaining the Howard compact to increase public welfare for capitalists and petro-state
March 21, 2026 at 10:46 AM
Anne Ruston just said the Libs need to restate their Menzian and Howard values and principles. Honestly, only wealthy boomers (and some older Gen Xers) remember them with any fondness…. They need new vision, not recycling the old shit
March 21, 2026 at 10:23 AM
Yeah. The absence of “real world” policies designed for people other than wealthy boomers and big business probably doesn’t help the Libs either

I know. And I am angry and I vote.

Unlike the companies who are profiteering and paying minimal tax or royalties for the privilege.
March 17, 2026 at 8:42 AM
So… I’m no economist or politician but why is the government so scared of a super profits tax (for banking, energy, resources, etc)?
Surely it’s time has come?
As a salaried tax payer I am so screwed by this status quo…
March 17, 2026 at 8:34 AM
I’m so confused.
Since when has higher than expected business investment in a market economy been something that needs suppression via higher commercial credit costs?
I am just an administrative lawyer, don’t hit me!
