I'm struggling today. I know we all need to work through emotions, but I don't like being sad. I have a persistent lump in my throat and heaviness in my heart. After you lose both parents, you feel equally untethered and weighted down with the responsibility of being the eldest generation.

My mother passed away on Christmas Eve. Despite her ailing health and age, it was still unexpected. She had a contagious laugh and a love of everything sunny, especially sunflowers. I miss her deeply.
